ESTHWAITE WATER 2009 OPEN PAIRS FINAL - RESULTS.

A strong field of competitors took part in the grand final of the Masterline Walker and Pure Fishing sponsored Open Pairs competition at Esthwaite Water Trout Fishery. Conditions were ideal with overcast weather and fish up in the water, however in contrast to the practice day the fish were a bit tricky to  catch and contestents had to choose their tactics and areas carefully to catch  consistently!

In total the 24 finalists weighed in 81 rainbows for a total weight including time bonuses of 177lb 12oz. In third place Alistair Tate and Sandy Robertson weighed in 9 fish for 24lb 7oz. In second place were Graham Bell and Jim Tuck who weighed in 11 fish for 28lb 2oz. In first place, competition regulars Peter Crowe and Ernie Craster from Co Durham weighed in 12 fish for a whopping 31lb including time bonus. The duo were the only competitors to gain a time bonus and deserved to win on the day, against a tough field of northern veterans.

Winning tactics employed by Ernie and Peter included slime lines and snatchers and four tree bay seemed to be the hotspot on the day. The prize for the heaviest fish of the competition was taken by Jim Tuck with a cracking rainbow of 5lb 3oz.

The post competition camaraderie was of the usual high standard associated with such an event and a buffet was enjoyed by the contestants before angling writer and flyfishing instructor Patrick Arnold conducted the presentation were the top three pairs shared over £3500 worth of tackle, cash and season ticket prizes.

An open pairs boat competition fished as a series of heats, throughout the season and culminating in the Open Pairs final in September.

Entry is open to all fly anglers.
The entry fee of £35.00 per person includes the cost of the fishing permit and boat with engine for the day.
Each heat will run from 10am until 5pm and both the heats and the final will be fished to international rules. The top two pairs from each heat go through to the open pairs final. Entry forms are available from the fishery.

Tackle Shop Invitation Day Trophy 2010
Each year we invite owners and managers of the fishing tackle shops in the North West region to participate in a competition. We have been doing this for the past 10 years as a way of thanking them for recommending us to their clients. The 2009 winners were The fishing Hut.
The 2010 tackle shop invitation day trophy will be held on Thursday 29th April.

Esthwaite Water Flyfishing Team

Sponsored by Masterline Walker these Northern veterans represent the fishery at major national competitions throughout the country, such as the Fulling Mill International, Today's Flyfisher European Open and The North West loch Style Eliminator to name but a few.

Esthwaite Water is the teams' home water for practice and team building sessions. The facility has enabled the team to produce some outstanding results through out last season.
