MASTERLINE ESTHWAITE – WEEKLY REPORT

Recent fishing on Esthwaite Water has been exceptional with a rod average of 7.8 fish per angler! The weather is finally beginning to warm up and hatches of buzzers have been extensive with excellent rises and top of the water action, especially on calm overcast days!
Matt and Harry Eastham fished with local ghillie Patrick Arnold and enjoyed a bumper days sport landing 50 + rainbows to 5lb+. Fishing from the boats, Matt and Harry employed the natural approach , using patterns such as diawl bachs, crunchers and buzzers.
Alistair Beaumont from Lancaster also had a superb days sport landing 35 rainbows to 3lb + from the boats on damsel nymphs fished with a fast figure of eight retrieve.
Also fishing nymphs Joe Macgregor from Gateshead took a 20+ fish haul again from the boats. Joe’s best fish tipped the scales at just over 4lb.
Season ticket angler Malcolm Robson from Morecambe took 16 fish to 3lb 8oz on a budgie and slime line combination.
Bank anglers have also been reporting some really good sport with double figure catches, from all methods , including fly, spin and worm!
Fish are now to be found all over the lake with grubhole and swimming pool producing good sport in the north basin and the ticket office, stockie bay, 4 tree bay and the cages all producing in the south basin!
The Tackle Shop Invitation Trophy was won by Chris Butler and Vincent Peake from West Coast Angling centre weighing in 2 fish for 4lb 5oz. It is the first time West Coast Angling have won the trophy , so well done lads . Tom Nelson and Bob Swann from Castle Feathers came a close second with 2 fish for 4lb 4oz!
Also heat 3 of the Esthwaite Water open pairs was contested recently and 8 anglers weighed in 40 fish for a total weight of 81lb 2oz. The top 2 pairs qualify from each heat and in second place Peter Jones and Steve Chapman weighed in 12 fish for 24lb 2oz including time bonuses and in first place Bob Swann and Colin O’brien weighed in 12 fish for 26lb 12oz including time bonuses.The next heat of this very popular competition will take place on Saturday 17th May. Anyone wishing to fish the competition should contact the fishery for entry forms and rules!
Ladies free tuition day took place at the weekend and was well attended.Our next free tuition day will take place on 24th May , anyone wishing to attend should contact the fishery and also bring with them sunglasses and a brimmed hat!
